Mineola Memorial Library Notes

October is finally here! Many of our staff participate in the Mineola High School Marching Band and this is the season for marching contests. Please be patient with our staff. Three of our staff are band members and the library director has a trombonist in the band. We will be relying on volunteers on many Saturdays in October. We are very grateful to have so many wonderful people willing to step up and help out.

Our Friends of the Library will meet tomorrow (Thursday) at 1 p.m. at the Mineola Nature Preserve and the guest speaker will be Mercy Rushing, Mineola city administrator and executive director of the economic development corporation of Mineola. Please, bring a brown bag lunch or snack and join the Friends for information and fellowship.

The Library Book Club will meet on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. to discuss “News of the World” by Paulette Jiles. The East Texas Library Friends Book Club will meet on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. at the Oak Ridge Marina Restaurant to discuss “Imagine Me Gone” by Adam Haslett.

The library will have its monthly book sale on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the annex location. Stop by for great bargains and to support the Mineola Memorial Library.

The library will have an information booth at the Iron Horse Festival on Saturday, Oct. 28. Friends of the Mineola Memorial Library will be available to provide information about the library and its programs and what they do to help the library.

A frequently asked question is what to do with books that need to be returned when the library is closed. We have two very large containers on the front porch. One is the book drop and the other is the video drop. Simply place your items for return in the proper container. We always check those book and video drops first thing in the morning. If you decide to use the drops during our regular hours of operation (when we are open) you run the risk of a late fee because the drops are only checked prior to opening the library. Please, do not use them for garbage; we have a trash can on the opposite side of the porch.

We have lots of activities listed on our website www.mineolalibrary.com on the calendar.  Check it out, give us a call at 903-569-2767, or come by and visit at 301 N. Pacific in Mineola.  We would love to hear from you! Remember, the Mineola Memorial Library is a 501(c)3, non-profit and your donations are tax-deductible.

Mineola Memorial Library has received a memorial for Marsha Parrish-Smith from Mrs. Eugene Mallory and a donation from Linda Wray. Chris Beckendorff of Woodmen of the World donated a new American flag to the library.
