The month of February is filled with lots of celebrations and holidays. There’s Ground Hog’s Day. Lincoln’s Birthday, Mardi Gras, Valentine’s Day, President’s Day and Washington’s Birthday. It is also Heart Health and African American History Month. The Library has books on each of these exciting subjects.
The first book sale of the year will be on Saturday, Feb. 17 beginning at 9 a.m. You may purchase items individually or you may fill up a paper grocery bag for $5.00 per bag. We are using the grocery bags as they are more uniform in size and easier to store. If your first bag overflows, then purchase a second bag. The book sale is a fundraiser for the Mineola Memorial Library and a great way to pick up some book bargains.
American Girls Historical Reading Club for mothers and daughters will meet on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 10 a.m. to learn about Addy from 1864. If you want to participate, you must sign-up / register / reserve your spot by today by either calling the library or stopping by the front desk. If you contact the Library after that date, you will be signed up for the March meeting.
Feb. 22 from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. will be another hiring event hosted by Express Employment Professionals. They have had success with the last two events. Please, visit us on this Thursday if you are looking for employment. They might have something for you.
It is annual report time for the Library. The Texas State Library wants to know all kinds of things about each library in Texas. They want to know how many programs were offered by age group and how many attended; how many hours the library is open per week; how many book titles do we have by age group and how many items; how many times was the internet accessed at the library either by computer station or wifi or both; and how many people physically visit the library---just to name a few. Fortunately, it is not due until March 31 so the trickier topics can be dealt with slowly.
Remember our book club! The library book club will meet Thursday, Feb. 15 at 6 p.m. to discuss the Cowboy and the Lady by Diana Palmer. Light refreshments will be served along with lively discussion about the book. The next selection will be announced at the conclusion of the meeting.
For those of you wondering: Chessie the Cat is still occupying the Library. She is on patrol after hours. During operating hours, she serves as a paperweight for important documents and then she takes a much needed nap complete with snoring.
Our schedule of events may be found on our website: www.mineolalibrary.com. If you have any questions, you may call the library and our staff will do our best to answer them (903-569-2767).
