The first two months of this year are just flying by as are the types of weather we are experiencing! Can you believe we have already had two Friends of the Library meetings, two book club meetings, and several children’s programs?
The next Library Book Club selection will be “Mrs. Saint and the Detectives” by Julie Lawson Timmer. This is a mystery novel and looks like it will be fun to read. The library Book Club will meet again on Thursday, March 15 at 6 p.m.
The library is in the process of making a 3D printer available for some of our programs. There is a lot to do in preparation. All the staff needs to be familiar with it. There have to be guidelines written for care and use. We have to figure out a fee for the filament used in the same manner we charge for paper copies and prints. Be on the look-out for this new piece of equipment.
The Friends of the Library will meet on Thursday, March 1 at 1 p.m. at the historic Select Theater for an informative program about the theater and a brief tour.
The first Book Sale of the year was held on Saturday at the Annex. It was nice to get back into the swing of things with this fundraising event. Remember, the proceeds from the book sale go to help operate the library.
Are you aware of the TexShare Data Bases the Mineola Memorial Library has to offer? They can be accessed in the library by signing into one of the patron stations or from home with your library card. Inside the TexShare Data Base is Pronunciator, a program for learning up to 80 languages including Spanish, Irish and Lithuanian. You create an account to track your progress, choose a language and start learning. There is also Procitizen for studying to become a U. S. citizen and a data base called Learning Express for test preparation and career help. This is free for you to use! Stop by the library for a brief tutorial and see what all is available.
We hope to see you soon. We are located at 301 N. Pacific in Mineola. Our hours are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. We are closed on Sunday and Monday.
