Thanks to all the great volunteers and staff who manned the library while we went to the Texas Library Association’s Annual Conference! I have heard nothing but positive words for the way everyone pitched in and kept things running smoothly.
Texas Library Association hosts this conference each year in a different large city and this year it was in Dallas. We get to attend many discussions / demonstrations / talks on how to do different things at the library. We got to hear authors speak about their latest offerings, and sometimes stumble onto something quite serendipitously such as the one I attended with two lexicographers (people who study words). We also get to visit a variety of vendors and find out what is out there and what our library might want to think about. Finally, there is the social aspect of visiting with librarians from across the state we only get to see at gatherings such as this. We return exhausted with heads full of information that will take us a little while to process.
We really appreciated the board allowing us to attend. We appreciate our patrons understanding our need to attend these events when we are able.
Thank you so very much to the Friends of the Library who made National Library Week so much fun! They surprised the staff with all kinds of good things!
The library will be closed on Saturday, May 5. We are celebrating the graduation of Daniel Hurley from UT Tyler and many of the staff would like to attend either the live event or the live streaming (seating is limited).
Usual programming has returned and will continue until the week of May 25. The following week we will begin our summer schedule. Current programs will cease and summer programs will begin. Stay tuned for details.
Want to study for the GED? Need homework help? Have you tried Learning Express offered through our participation in the Tex Share Database? If you have a current library card, log in to the card catalog then scroll about halfway down the page where you will notice a circle with the state of Texas on it. Click on that circle and then scroll down to find Learning Express. You will need to create an account using your email and a password. This account will help keep up with what you have accomplished or are working on. If you take a test, remember to click on the “next” button or else you will get a score for the entire test which you may not have attempted. Please, try it and let us know what you think.
