We are halfway through the month of May. School is about to wrap up and summer programs are about to begin.
This year we will say goodbye to Annalee as she heads off to college. We have enjoyed having her here at the library and look forward to hearing about her adventures.
You may see a familiar face at the library that has been absent for the school year. Kaleigh is home from college and we have her for part of the summer.
May will be spent wrapping up school year programs. After-school will continue until May 21. School is out on May 22, so we shall see if we will have any attendees for the last meeting.
Toddler Time and Baby Bounce will continue on their respective days through May 30.
The last library book club will meet on Thursday, May 16 to discuss “How the Light Gets In” by Jolina Petersheim. This group will take a break during the summer months.
East Texas Library Friends Book Club is now reading “The Radium Girls” by Kate Moore, which is about girls working in the radium-dial factories. They will meet in the Mineola Memorial Library on June 15 at 2 p.m. to discuss this selection.
We are gearing up for the Summer Reading Programs. This is an opportunity to visit the library and participate in an activity.
We offer reading logs to keep up with reading efforts over the summer. Remember, just 15 minutes a day can keep a child reading on their current level and help them increase their reading skills.
Summer will be hot and this is an inexpensive and “cool” way to spend your time. Our next column will get into the specifics of programs offered for particular age groups and their meeting times. The theme is a Universe of Stories, and it has a lot to offer.
