School is back in session and the library is a bit empty at the moment. Everyone is adjusting to new schedules, whether with students in school or driving through school zones (slow down and keep our students safe, please).

September is also Library Card Month. Stop by the library and see what we have to offer. Get a free library card and enjoy our facilities.

Friends of the Library will begin their season on Thursday, Sept. 6 at 1 p.m., and they will be planning the next book sale and their year. This is a support group for the library. They host interesting programs and they volunteer to help the library as requests are made by the director and board.

Programs are beginning this week in the library. Old favorites are returning and new ones are being tried. Programs are for the very young and the young at heart. Stop by the library and pick up a calendar of events for more details.

Tuesdays will have Adult Learning Time at 10 a.m. on the first Tuesday of the month for grown-ups; 11:15 a.m. is for Preschool Story Time for children ages 3, 4, and 5 with their caregivers; and at 4:15 p.m. the After School Programs will wrap up the day.

Wednesdays bring Toddler Time for children ages 18 months to 3 years and their caregivers.

Thursdays have Bouncing Babies at 10 a.m. for infants to 18 month olds and their caregivers. The third Thursday of the month will be the Library Book Club at 6 p.m.

Fridays are the time for Family Craft on the third Friday of the month at 1 p.m. It is a time for families to make something together. The fourth Friday of the month is a time for Adults Field Trips to local business at 10 a.m.

East Texas Library Friends will meet on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. to discuss David Grann’s book Killers of the Flower Moon. This book club meets about every six weeks at one of three locations around the East Texas area.

Inventory is complete! Many thanks to the volunteers who helped with this project. Very few items were out of place this year, which is a remarkable accomplishment!

Another thank you to Troop 385 for helping the library out again. A large branch fell from a tree near the library. I went out and cleared the sidewalk area with my little handsaw. Several people stopped to ask if I needed help (I was rather red in the face) and I very much appreciated their offers and their concern. I put in a call to the Scout leader, and he came out and not only finished the job but swept the sidewalk cleaner than I ever could have. We live in such a wonderful community!
