Greeting to all! Happy Fall! We finally have weather to match the season. We have lots of books to curl up with and movies to watch during the chilly evenings.

Library programs continue to be offered weekly. Please check out our website or visit us in person to pick up a newsletter with the events listed on a calendar that you can hang on your refrigerator.

We love to hear your suggestions for new books to add to our collection. Keep in mind we cannot purchase everything. Some of the questions we ask when deciding to add a new book include: Do we have this author? Do we have this genre? How old is this publication? How many people have asked about this subject/author/series? We try our best to reflect the needs of our community and your input is very helpful.

We have added some new audio books including: Under Gemini by Rosamund Pitcher, Promise Not to Tell by Jayne Ann Krentz and Force of Nature by Jane Harper. New books in the children’s area include Dog Man Lord of the Fleas by Dav Pilkey and 9 from the Nine Worlds by Rick Riorday. Stop by and see what else is new in the library.

We have updated our circulation policy on fines and fees. The fines for books and audio books being returned late is twenty-five cents per day per item and the fine for movies is $1.00 per day per item. You may check out up to 7 movies which will be due in one week from check out. You may check out “new” items (marked with a sticker) for two weeks and may only have four new items at a time. The rest of the books may be checked out for four weeks and the limit is up to you and what you know you can handle. If fines total $25 or more, you will not be able to check out additional items until the fine is paid.

Why do we have fines? It is a consequence for returning items late. All actions have consequences. We allow one renewal per item you have checked out if no one is waiting (has reserved the item). You can renew by phone, in person, or on-line. If your items are late we do a courtesy call or send an d-mail or a text to remind you when things are one to three days late, then we send a postcard reminder and finally a letter listing what is overdue.

The Library Book Club will meet on Thursday, October 18 at 6 p.m. to discuss Follow the River. Please join this group of lively discussion and to discover the title of the next book selection.

Crochet will return on Saturday, October 20 at 10 a.m. At this meeting the group will get to know each other and decide the schedule for meeting.

The Mineola Memorial Library is a 501©3, non-profit and your donations are tax-deductible.

A memorial for Russell Thomasson was received from Wilford Jones.
