Mineola Memorial Library Notes
World Read Aloud Day is coming up on Friday, Feb. 1. Mineola Memorial Library will participate by having someone read aloud every hour either from a short story or a few pages from a novel. If you owe a fine, you can reduce it by stopping by and participating by reading aloud. We may even have a Read-Aloud Crown for you to wear!
Saturday, Feb. 2 is Take Your Child to the Library Day (and Groundhog Day). Bring your child to the library. If they can sign their name and you have proof of address, they can get a library card. More reading aloud will take place and there will be passive activities to try. These activities are things you and your child can do together as you come across them.
Our Friends of the Library meeting on Thursday, Feb. 7 at 1 p.m. will have guest speaker Carolyn Curtis. Ms. Curtis is the author/collaborator of several books and a veteran journalist. She will be discussing “Women and C. S. Lewis — What His Life and Literature Reveal for Today’s Culture,” which she authored. Please watch for our fliers about this event and plan to join us for this informative presentation.
Thought I would tell you about a feature we have in our card catalog. When you are at home, you can access our catalog through our website. About the middle of the page, you will see where you can search and you can click on “advanced search” to get to the catalog. Once there, log in with your patron number (the one on your library card—don’t use the “p”) and your password. Your password is usually the phone number you have on file with us, or you may have changed it. Once you are logged in, click on “my account” and then on “reserves/requests.” There is a feature here called “receive new books” and it is highlighted in blue. If you click on this link, you can scroll through authors that we frequently add to the library. Find an author you like? Click on the name to make it bold and the next time we add a book by that author, you will automatically be placed on reserve for it! It easier than it sounds. Try it.
That’s a lot happening in addition to our regularly scheduled programming. Please, stop by the Library and see what we have to offer. We can’t wait to see you!
The Mineola Memorial Library is a 501(c)3, nonprofit and your donations are tax deductible and very much appreciated. The Library received a donation from the Boswells.
