Mineola Memorial Library Notes

Lots of things are happening at the Mineola Memorial Library. Regular programming has resumed and we are doing all kinds of fun things with the children.

On Thursday, Feb. 7 the Friends of the Mineola Memorial Library will have guest speaker Carolyn Curtis at their meeting. She will be talking about C. S. Lewis. He is the author of the Screwtape Letters and Chronicles of Narnia to name a couple. Curtis is an author and veteran journalist. A couple of our patrons have heard her speak and say this is not something to be missed. Join the Friends at 1 pm on Thursday, Feb. 7 for this event.

East Texas Library Friends Book Club will be meeting on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 2 p.m. in the Library. They will be discussing the book A Dog’s Purpose by W. Bruce Cameron. You may recognize the title from the movie based on his book. The group will also pick out the last four books to add to the reading list for the 2019 year.

Mineola Memorial Library patrons are reading Lisa Scottoline’s book Keep Quiet. They will be discussing this book on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 6 p.m. After discussing this book (and the discussion will probably be very interesting due to the subject matter) the next book will be revealed.

In my last column, I told you how to put your name on the list for upcoming releases. This time I’m going to remind you of our TexShare Databases or Ready References. These can be accessed through our website with your library card. Log into the catalog with your card and pin/password. Select the TexShare icon, which is a red, white, and blue circle in the shape of the state of Texas. In this location you can find do-it-yourself aids for small engine repairs or crafts; lots of articles on various subjects; and even a little bit of genealogy! Don’t panic if you see a sign in at the top of the page; this is for creating a folder where you can save things for a particular database.

It’s tax season again. We do not have forms. You may go to www.irs.gov and print the forms you need or parts of instruction that you need. Remember, it is 20 cents per page to print. If you only need one page out of the instruction book, only print that page and we are happy to help you print the one page. Lillie Russell Memorial Library in Lindale is hosting AARP tax help on Thursdays beginning Feb. 7. They ask that you call ahead and reserve a spot as it makes things easier for the volunteers. You may reach them by dialing 903-882-1900.

Remember, the Mineola Memorial Library is a 501(c)3, non-profit and your donations are tax deductible.
