Mineola Memorial Library Notes

As you are reading this, two of us are returning from Austin and the annual Texas Library Association Conference. This is a gathering of librarians from all over the state, and sometimes from neighboring states. It is a time to learn new things, find new products and services, and renew old friendships. We could not attend learning opportunities such as this if it weren’t for great staff, marvelous volunteers, and a very supportive board of directors.

Just prior to our departure, Mineola Memorial Library was visited by 91 first-grade students of Mineola Primary School escorted by nine chaperons. All were well-behaved. They listened to a story or two and then had a tour of the library. They left with bookmarks, stickers, and information about Summer Reading Program for their age. We look forward to their visit every year.

Regular programming will resume next week. We put several programs on hold while we were out but they will return beginning April 23.

The Mineola Memorial Library Book Club meets Thursday, April 18 to discuss the book Breathe, Annie, Breathe and to learn the title of their last book for the season. Their last meeting will be May 16 and then they will take a break for the summer.

Just a reminder about our hours. We are closed on Sundays and Mondays. The rest of the week we open at 9 a.m. We close at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. We close at 5 p.m. on Friday and we close at 4 p.m. on Saturday. Sometimes we have groups using our facility before or after our regular hours and these are usually private programs. We shut down the computers 15 minutes prior to closing our doors for the day. Just some friendly reminders.

Look for the Library and the Friends of the Mineola Memorial Library at the May Fiesta Day event on Saturday, May 4. We will have a booth with information about the library and the Friends of the Library and possibly an activity or two for children to try.

The library received memorials for Frances Miller from the R.E.A.D Book Club and the 20th Century Club.

The Mineola Memorial Library is a 501(c), 3 non-profit.
