As I write this, the library is still open. We have not had large crowds, we have not had over 50 in the library at the same time, and our patrons have been great about keeping as much distance between each other as they can when on the computers.

As I write this, the library is still open. We have not had large crowds, we have not had over 50 in the library at the same time, and our patrons have been great about keeping as much distance between each other as they can when on the computers.

When items are returned, the staff is wiping down the outside before returning them to the shelves.  We are wiping down the computer keyboards and mouses at least twice a day along with door handles and watching when the tables and chairs are used to keep them wiped down as well.

These are challenging times. If you are not comfortable coming into the library and you have books due, you can drop them in the book drops on the porch as I will be leaving both unlocked during operating hours. If you do not want to venture that far out, just call 903-569-2767 and ask us to renew your items.

If you do not want to come into the library but do want to continue using our resources, we have three eBook platforms. Each requires you to sign in with your library identification which is your library card number (do not use the “P” which tells us the bar code is for a patron not an item) and the phone number you have on file with us on your account, no dashes. We have Axis 360, which has the newer items and a few audio downloads. We also have Freading, which has older items and is sorted by type; if you are looking for books for children, this would be a go-to location. Through our catalog, we have Project Gutenberg items to be read and LibriVox audio items.

Things to do with your children at home include reading, walking around your yard and looking for shapes, colors, patterns, and making up stories about what you see. Try playing board games or card games like “go fish” and “memory.” Talk to each other about your favorite books or movies. Bake some cookies or make a salad.

Please watch the website and Facebook for changes in our status. We want you to be safe. We want our staff to be safe. Wash your hands, cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze, keep your hands off your face, and be calm. This too shall pass.
