Greetings to all! Are you staying at home and washing your hands? The library staff is doing that, too.

We say thank you to our first responders, medical personnel, grocery and food industry workers, gas station employees, truck drivers, delivery people, our postman, and the people who pick up our trash. There are many others who are continuing to work in and about our community to keep essential services going and we appreciate all of you.

We have pushed the due dates for materials to May 22. If we are not open, I will push the dates back again. Stay home. If you feel you must return your items because you might forget they belong to the library, the book and movie drops are open.

As materials are returned, we are wiping the covers with disinfectant wipes and letting that dry before shelving. CDC guidelines are after 72 hours the virus should be inactive. Nothing is going out and everything that has been left in the library has met that standard or will meet that standard by the time we reopen. Before we closed, we were wiping down frequently touched surfaces often. Door handles, telephones, computer keyboards, the circulation desk top, restroom facilities, etc.

We have electronic resources you may access with your library card. Do not use the letter “P” when putting in that information. Your pin number, unless you have changed it, is the telephone number you have on file with us.

Don’t have a library card? It’s OK. Click on the log in area in the upper right hand corner of our catalog page. A drop down box will appear with a link to click on that asks if you need a library card. Click on that, fill out the form, and there you go. If you have problems call and leave a message or, better yet, send an email.

Wifi is still available between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. from the comfort of your own vehicle. Parking is available beside the library on Blair Street. You don’t have to get out of your car which will help with social distancing.

All library programs are canceled for April. We are listening for guidance from Wood County Judge Hebron and following Mineola ISD. As optimists, we are still listing programs for May, but that could change as we near the end of the month.

The library has a Facebook page. There you can follow the adventures of Ben and Cat as they entertain themselves while we’re away.

Wash your hands, keep your distance, and stay safe. We miss you and cannot wait to see you again!

The Mineola Memorial Library is a 501(c)3, non-profit.
