School is back in session and hopefully that will all go as planned. As you may have noticed, I missed a column. I took a much needed vacation. I discovered on my trip that we are not the only ones grappling with how to work in the COVID world. Many places we went required masks and several had hand sanitizer you had to use. Highway signs reminded everyone to wear a mask. This too shall pass, we just have to be patient.

The library said good bye to a staff member. She is leaving to pursue her college education. We will miss her smile and her presence and hope she will come back and visit us.

The library will continue to offer Grab and Go activities for children. These are placed on the bench under the tree. Because we cannot offer in-person activities for children, this is the next best thing. We try to offer simple but fun activities that can be completed individually or as a family with everyday materials such as crayons or glue. We have offered dragon fliers, felt boards and baby shark stick puppets with sing along to name a few.

The library has a number of interesting displays. One is titled “Orange you glad you read?” You should see how many orange covered books there are in the library.

East Texas Library Friends is reading “Us Against You” by Frederik Bachman. This book picks up where “Beartown” left off. You can read each book as a standalone but having read “Beartown,” I really enjoyed “Us Against You.” Find this book club at goodreads.com under the group heading with the name East Texas Library Friends. We do have this book available for check out.

We are still offering curbside service. All you have to do is go online and reserve your selections. We will call, text or email when they are ready. Or you may call the library and speak to a staff member to reserve items. Call us when you get to the parking lot and let us know who you are and where you are parked and we will be happy to bring your items to you.

The Mineola Memorial Library is a 501(c)3, non profit and your donations are not only appreciated, they are tax deductible.

Remember, wash your hands, wear your mask, watch the social distance and we will see you soon!
