School has begun and schedules are shifting into a new gear. The Mineola Memorial Library is changing its hours, too. We are extending our hours on Wednesday and Friday. We hope to have this schedule for a long time. New hours are Tuesday 9-6, Wednesday 9-5:30, Thursday 9-6, Friday 9-4, Saturday 9-3, and as always we are closed on Sunday and Monday. WiFi remains available seven days a week from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m. Curbside service is available during operating hours.

Just a note, we will be closed on Saturday, Sept. 4 for the Labor Day holiday.

Staff has changed at the library with employees returning to school or exploring career options. Our new staff members are learning (quickly) and are ready to help our patrons to the best of their abilities.

The East Texas Library Friends Book Club will meet on Saturday, Aug. 21 at 2 p.m. in Rains County. Please, check out goodreads.com and click on the group “East Texas Library Friends” to get location details. The group will be discussing “The Lions of Fifth Avenue” by Fiona Davis.

There will be a book sale on Saturday, Aug. 21 from 9 a.m. until noon at the Annex location, 1721 N. Pacific. Cash and checks are accepted. No change is available as we have a donation box into which you place your donations for your book purchases. All funds benefit the Mineola Memorial Library. Suggested donation amounts may be found about the sale, but it is up to your discretion.

We are working on planning our in-person programming for the fall. Programs will begin in September. Please, keep an eye on Facebook and our website (mineolalibrary.com) to see what is coming up. As is typical in these times we live in, things may change but as of this writing, we are hoping for the best. Please, remember to stay home and keep your children home if any of you are not feeling well, please wash your hands, keep your distance and respect each other’s choice to mask or not to mask.

If you are in the library, check out the American Girl Doll display, take the quiz and see which BeForever character you are most like. The display will be up until Labor Day.

The Mineola Memorial Library is a 501(c)3, non-profit and your donation may be tax-deductible.
