School has begun and we have extended our hours. We are now open Tuesday 9-6, Wednesday 9-5:30, Thursday 9-6, Friday 9-4 and Saturday 9-3. As we have been for 20-plus years, we are still closed on Sunday and Monday.

Have you visited our website lately? If you do, you will notice Niche Academy on our home page. This academy is full of tutorials to help you learn how to use some of our databases and our eBook platforms.

Give it a try. You may find them more helpful than actual people because you can start and stop the video or even back-up until you learn how to use a particular feature. Let us know what you think.

The library is excited to announce its participation in the September 11: a Day that Changed the World that presents the history of 9/11, its origins and its ongoing implications through the personal stories of those who witnessed and survived the attack.

Told across 14 posters, this exhibition includes archival photographs and images of artifacts from the museum’s permanent collection. It explores the consequences of terrorism in individual lives and communities at the local, national and international levels and encourages critical thinking about the legacies of 9/11.

Twenty years after the attacks, with terrorism still a threat today, the events of 9/11 and its aftermath remind us that we may never be able to prevent all the actions of people intent on harming others, but we do have control over how we respond to such events. Whether by volunteering in our local communities, serving our nation in the military, caring for the sick or through other efforts, all of us can help build the world in which we want to live.

As we witness history unfolding in our own time, the ways we choose to respond – both large and small – can demonstrate the best of human nature after even the worst of days.

We have paper leaves located near the poster display upon which you may write an encouraging note to a veteran and we will send those to Camp V, a veteran’s outreach in Tyler. There these notes of encouragement will be delivered to veterans needing to hear an encouraging word.
