Summer Reading events are wrapping up. By the time you read this column, we will have hosted the Texas A&M Chemistry Road show (thank you Mineola ISD for the use of the elementary gym), the TAME Trailblazer STEM museum on wheels (thank you First United Methodist for the use of the parking lot and volunteers for your assistance), our last in-house craft/science activities on Wednesday, July 20 at 2 p.m. and Thursday, July 21 at 2 p.m. will be our wrap-up with storyteller Elizabeth Ellis brought to us by the Texas Commission on the Arts.

If you have the opportunity, please, join us for our wrap-up on Thursday when Elizabeth Ellis will present a storytelling program. After the program, summer reading participants will receive an appreciation bag and light refreshments.

These programs were made possible by grants from the Tocker Foundation, Foundations associated with the Chemistry Road show, Texas Commission of the Arts, CNB, Dairy Queen, Cowburners, 20th Century Club, Mineola Texas Star and private citizens. I hope I named all involved in helping us to produce this summer’s events. If I missed anyone it is an accidental oversight on my part.

Toddler Story Time will meet on Wednesday, July 27 at 10 a.m. and then take a break until September.

American Girls Historical Reading Club will meet Saturday, Aug. 13 at 10 and that will be the only library program for August. Call 903-569-2767 for details about this meeting for girls ages 7 and older accompanied by a parent/adult caregiver. Registrations are a must and the deadline is Thursday, Aug. 11.

Why are we taking a programming break? We need a chance to catch our breath, review our summer efforts, and plan for fall/winter/spring programs.

If you have a suggestion or idea, fill out a suggestion card located throughout the library. Let us know the interest, age group, any special requirements, focus and other details you feel would be helpful to us in the planning process. This does not guarantee the program will take place but it does let us know of your programming interests.

“Where the Crawdads Sing” by Delia Owens is a really good book and we have several copies. Many book clubs in town and Reese Witherspoon’s book club have read it. Now you have the opportunity to see the movie locally. The Historic Select Theater has it showing the last weekend of July. See how it compares with the book and thank the theater for being able to get this movie.

Remember, the Mineola Memorial Library is a 501(c)3, non-profit and your donations may be tax-deductible.
