It’s back! The annual staff pumpkin decorating contest. Staff are decorating their pumpkins as you read this. We hope to have them all on display by Tuesday, Oct. 18, and then you will have the opportunity to vote for your favorite. Winner gets bragging rights for a year.

The library will participate in the downtown Trick or Treating on Monday, Oct. 31 while supplies last. We will have our spot by the Historic Select Theater. Hope to see you there.

The library still uses the Dewey Decimal System because it works for us. Displays are created highlighting events or holidays (elections, Halloween), books that need attention (they have not circulated) or month long recognition (Hispanic Heritage month or Texas History month).

Does the library have a display for everything? That is just not possible because there are so many interests and we have limited wall space.

If you are looking for a particular subject, just ask the staff who is ready to help locate what we have available. There may be a period of questions and answers to determine what is being sought.

As you may have noticed, there are new staff members at the library. They are still learning. Please, be patient as they gain experience. Seasoned staff is almost always nearby to assist when necessary.

Would you like to help the library? You can volunteer to shelf read, dust, sweep and coming soon – bag leaves. Not quite what you had in mind?

Visit with the Friends of the Mineola Memorial Library on Saturday, Oct. 15 during their fundraising event at the Annex on 1721 N. Pacific, just down from Walmart, beginning at 9 a.m., weather permitting.

Remember, the Mineola Memorial Library is a 501(c)3, non-profit and your donations may be tax-deductible.
