Mineola Pilot Club honors student patriots
Each year the Pilot Club of Mineola honors veterans with a patriotic contest for third, fourth and fifth graders at Mineola Elementary in which students create posters, poetry and prose.
After a history of Veteran’s Day by Diane Holmes and patriotic music by Linda Hernandez, Pilot President Christine Spofford introduced the winners. Each student read or showed their creative entry.
They included fifth graders Iris Goodson, grand champion; Callee White, first place, Paislee Hall, second place; and third place Laney Kralka. Fourth grade winners were Juliane Hoff first, Kaylee Nance second and Bella Exner third. Winning in the third grade were Lilah Dougherty first, J.D. McGough second and Kinsler Bowker third.
The winners and parents were treated to a hamburger dinner, and each student received a goody bag of prizes.
