Mineola will go all out Saturday to celebrate the city’s 150th anniversary.

The Mineola Nature Preserve will host events to start the day, with 1K, 5K and 10K runs stepping off at 8 a.m., followed by a disc golf tournament at the preserve course.

Head to the downtown area for the rest of the day, starting with an 11 a.m. parade along the traditional Broad St. route from east to west.

Two contests will be ongoing during the day as judges will select the best beards and the best period dressers.

Judging for Fashion Through the Decades will be at 3 p.m. at the gazebo at Johnson and Commerce Streets.

The Beard Contest goes until 4 p.m. and allows contestants to buy “beard insurance,” to avoid having to shave if they lose.

Sidewalk sales, vendors, live music and a beer tent are among the highlights for the day.

A display of some of the items unearthed from the Class of 1998 time capsule will be included.

The Mineola Golf Club will host a day of events to include a car show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The day will conclude with a balloon glow at dusk at the Mineola Civic Center, and an airplane will tow a banner celebrating the event throughout the day. It made its first appearance during the May Fiesta.

The sesquicentennial royal court members will be on hand to assist with various activities.
