March 19

8:50 a.m. A man who was stopped by an unmarked vehicle on E. Broad St. reported he felt the person stopping him was not an officer. An officer responded and verified the stop was from a Wood County deputy.

12:50 p.m. A 911 hang up call was received from a residence on W. Patten St. An officer responded and determined children were playing with the phone. 

4:01 p.m. A reckless driver was reported at South Pacific and Loop 564. An officer was able to the get the vehicle stopped at the Northgate parking lot on N. Pacific St. The vehicle had power steering issues.

4:56 p.m. Officers and the public assisted a stranded motorist when a vehicle was stalled partially in the roadway on N. Pacific St. The vehicle was pushed out of the roadway.

March 20

7:44 a.m. A burglary of a vehicle was reported on Krause St. The vehicle was unlocked. Money was taken from the vehicle.

12:57 p.m. A business owner reported when she went to open a door of the business a key was broken off in the door.

March 21

10:12 a.m. A welfare concern was reported in reference to a custody exchange. A man reported he was to meet to pick up his child, but they did not show up. He reported he was concerned about them. An officer did get in contact with the mother and she reported they were fine and were out of town.

11:38 a.m. A caretaker of the APET storage building reported someone had taken some items from the building and threw the items out by the dumpster. The door had some damage.

1:21 p.m. A reckless driver and road rage incident was reported headed toward the city. The caller reported a vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and then stopped and walked back to the vehicle behind it and hit the hood. The driver got back in his vehicle and left. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle.

1:58 p.m. A man reported he walked into a business with the door unlocked and the lights off but did not find anyone around. The owner was called to secure the building.

3:45 p.m. A resident on Newsom St. reported a child shooting a BB gun. An officer responded and spoke with the parents. The child had taken the gun out of the residence without permission.

9:27 p.m. A suspicious vehicle was noted at the Nature Preserve by an officer. The owner was located and asked to leave the park so it could be locked.

March 22

3:37 p.m. A one-vehicle crash was reported on S. Stone St. at the McFarland Center. A 51-year-old male was found unconscious at the scene. EMS, first responders and officers responded. CPR was in progress at the time officers arrived. The male was transported to UT Health in Quitman, where he was later pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Pct. 1 Tony Gilbreath. An autopsy has been ordered.

March 23

4:24 p.m. A concerned citizen reported speeders in the area of Second St. Officers patrolled the area and placed a directive patrol for that area.

5:37 p.m. A parent requested assistance with their 12 year old son who was being disrespectful and caused a verbal argument. An officer spoke with the 12 year old and the family, which was a normal family dispute.

9:28 p.m. A welfare concern was reported in reference to a person voicing a concern that they wished to harm themselves. An officer transported the person to UT Health in Quitman for an evaluation.

March 24

12:16 p.m. A reckless driver was reported that was pulling a travel trailer. The officer checked with the driver when they pulled into a business. The driver reported that he did not have sway bars on the trailer. 

2:43 p.m. A hit and run accident was reported at the Mineola Nature Preserve. An officer responded and determined the incident occurred in the Hawkins area, on private property.

8:53 p.m. Officers responded to a trespassing report at the Golden Chick. A male subject had been trespassed in the past from the business. When officers arrived, the manager decided to not file charges, because the man was driven to the restaurant to order takeout food.

March 25

2:32 a.m. An officer checked on a suspicious vehicle that was sitting on the side of the roadway on W. McDonald St. Everything was fine with the vehicle and it was secured, but the lights were left on. 

11:32 a.m. A disturbance was reported in the parking lot of a convenience store on N. Pacific St. When the officer arrived, it was determined to be a verbal argument and the two went separate ways.

1:04 p.m. A suspicious vehicle was reported that was checking mailboxes on W. Broad St. The caller reported the suspicious activity an hour after observing it.

2:18 p.m. An officer assisted a stranded motorist in the turning lane on N. Pacific St.

4:47 p.m. A disturbance was reported on Sycamore St. Officers attempted to separate the two (male and female) and investigate the situation when another female attempted to assault the female. No charges were filed between the male and female couple, because at their request, non-prosecution waivers were signed and no injuries were observed. The female that barged into the scene was issued a citation for assault by contact. A family violence report was completed.

5:06 p.m. Loud music was reported at a residence on Turman St. An officer made contact with the resident and had the music turned down.

5:10 p.m. An old piece of a jewelry box was found in the shrubs of a resident’s yard. The wooden piece was turned over to the police department.
