Mineola runners advance to state
For the second year in a row, the Mineola Lady Jackets cross country team is headed to the state meet. The team’s third-place finish at the regional meet in Dallas secured their tickets to state.
Three Lady Jackets (Juliana Stanley – 12th overall, Hannah Zoch – 15th overall and Shylah Kratzmeyer – 19th overall) sparked the team by running their personal best times at regionals.
Coach David Smith ecstatically commented, “I am very proud of these girls, any time you can make it to the show it is a big deal!”
The Lady Jackets finished with the following times: Juliana Stanley 12:56.37, Hannah Zoch 13:02.48, Shylah Kratzmeyer 13:09.66, Alyssa Lankford 14:03.65, Emily Wiley 14:07.42, Kapri Riley 14:10.10, and Keilee Riley 14:32.48.
Mineola’s David Amador, who also ran a personal best time, and Dalton Crowson just missed qualifying for the state meet.
The Quitman Bulldogs boys cross country team finished 14th out of 24 schools, ending a very successful season that saw continuous improvement. Lady Bulldog Madyson Pence also competed.
The state cross country meet will be held on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. Old Settlers Park lies north of Highway 79 between Tollway 130 and Interstate 35, just west of Hutto.
