Mineola school trustees want to see test scores before contract decision

The Mineola School Board took a wait-and-see approach after evaluating Superintendent Kim Tunnell last Monday.

Tunnell, who has been the chief administrator since 2015, has a three-year contract through 2021.

The board voted 4-2 to table the contract until August when the results of the state’s STAAR scores are released.

Voting for the delay were Dr. John Abbott, Dr. Kyle Gully, Daniel Louderman and Jay McGough. Voting against were Carlist Brinkley and Kellam Newell.

The board also approved administrator contracts as follows:

12-month contracts, two years:

William Bjork, assistant superintendent of business

Luke Blackwell, athletic director

Kendall Gould, middle school principal

Jennifer Knipp, director of curriculum and instruction

Mark Parkerson, director of special programs

David Sauer, high school principal

Mike Sorenson, high school dean of student and staff affairs

11-month contracts, two years:

Angeleia Everett, primary school assistant principal

Stacy Morris, elementary school principal

Jole Ray, primary school principal

Jeffery Tittle, middle school assistant principal

One-year probationary contracts pending approved certification (MISD Police):

Cody Castleberry

Frank “Mike” Hurst

As the fiscal agent for the Wood County Special Education co-op, the board also approved a two-year contract for Director Tammy Willis.
