Mineola schools saw illnesses reduce pupil attendance rates
Mineola schools came close to shutting down due to excessive illness in early February.
Superintendent Kim Tunnell told the school board Monday, Feb. 11 that the district had been monitoring attendance for the past couple weeks.
It had rebounded to 95.6 percent as of Monday.
The primary school had dipped as low as 87 percent on Feb. 6, near the threshold where district officials have to decide whether to close schools.
Overall attendance was 92 percent the prior week, Tunnell said.
There has been lots of disinfecting going on, she said, and sending students home who were showing signs of illness.
Attendance for January averaged 94.11 percent, Tunnell said, with the high school as the highest campus at 95.18 percent.
