Mineola set to celebrate annual Fiesta de Mayo

The Fiesta de Mayo – May Festival – is quickly approaching Mineola once again.

According to Danielle Vance, manager for the Mineola Chamber of Commerce, the Fiesta de Mayo brought in between 3,500 and 4,000 people to Mineola’s downtown last year; this year, organizers intend to make this chamber fundraiser every bit as entertaining and fun as it was in 2024.

The 2025 Fiesta de Mayo will, of course, bring in vendors and food trucks. There will also be several events to highlight and celebrate Hispanic American culture, including three piñatas for kids, a live mariachi band called Mariachi Real and local folkloric dancers called Folkloric Legacy of Mineola.

Vance also says that the Fiesta de Mayo will feature a salsa cooking and a pepper eating contest, both of which are free. Registration forms to participate in these contests will be listed on the Chamber of Commerce Facebook shortly.

The Chamber of Commerce is also planning the event to include a car show, an extra-charge section for gellyball (which is a sport akin to paintball; however, in this kid-friendly game, soft, absorbent balls of gel are used instead of paintballs) and a live speed painter who completes paintings while he spins the canvas.

The Fiesta de Mayo will take place in downtown Mineola on Saturday, May 3, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

While the Fiesta de Mayo already has some sponsors, Vance says that the chamber is still open for any individuals or organizations to sign up to help sponsor the event. For more information, visit the Chamber website at mineolachamber.org.
