The Quitman Bulldogs bunched together three first inning runs and junior hurler A.J. Dunn shut down Alba-Golden batters on one hit while striking out 10 Panthers as the Bulldogs joined the district win column with a 4-1 victory last Tuesday at Tom Brady Field. Bulldog freshman Ben Burroughs came on to get the final four batters out in the contest.
After Dunn struck out three batters in the top of the first inning, Quitman’s Trey Berry got a double with one away. After Jake Farmer walked, Dawson Hudman slapped a hard shot mishandled by the infield scoring two runs. Hudman scored on an RBI by Burroughs making it 3-0.
The Bulldogs added another run in the bottom of the third and the Panthers tacked on a run on a fielder’s choice in the top of the fourth, but that would be all the scoring in the game.
Burroughs and Mason Tyree each had two singles for the night while Hudman had a single, two RBI and a run scored. Moss added a single and scored a run while Berry had the double, a run scored and a stolen base.
The Bulldogs fell to first place Edgewood on the road Friday night. The win made the Bulldogs 1-4 in district and 6-11 for the year with a trip to Grand Saline Tuesday and a home battle with Mineola Friday.
