Mineola sweeps Farmersville in 2 games; on to quarterfinals


After winning a tightly-contested game 3-2 early on Friday afternoon, the Lady Jackets swept the Farmersville Lady Farmers with a 5-1 victory in game two at Paris-Chisum High School.

 In the first game on Friday Mineola and Farmersville each scored a run in the first inning. Then the Lady Jackets broke the tie as they scored a run in the second inning. Mineola extended their lead to 3-1 after scoring a run again in the fifth inning. Farmersville then scored a run in the sixth inning to make the score, 3-2 but couldn’t get any closer as the Lady Jackets won by one.

 Kaitlyn Burrell led the Lady Jackets with two hits and a walk, Alyssa Lankford added an RBI. Anna Westberry pitched all seven innings throwing 19 first-pitch strikes, while adding six strike-outs.

 In game two the Lady Jackets got hot at the plate early with a run in the first inning. Then the Lady Jackets scored another run in the third, a run in the fifth, and finally adding two runs in the seventh inning.

 Mineola’s defense in the final game was superb as they held Farmersville to just one run in the game.

 At the plate Alyssa Lankford and Kiley Banks led the Jackets with two hits. Isabella Tresca, Audrey Bush and Claudia Barriga had a walk each. Tresca, Bush and Bank all added an RBI apiece.

 Anna Westberry pitched all seven innings for Mineola as she threw 17 first-pitch strikes, while racking up seven strikeouts.
