Mineola Yellowjackets tangle with Atlanta

Two high school boys basketball district champions face off tonight in Hallsville as Mineola and Atlanta vye for the regional quarterfinals at 6:30 p.m.

Mineola defeated Jefferson Thursday to advance 66-49 while Atlanta got by Arp 56-53 to get into the third round of the state playoffs.

After a quarter of furious activity Mineola trails 18-9.

After a Mineola scoring drought that lasted from the first quarter, when the score was 11-9 Atlanta, the Rabbits scord 17 straight points to lead 28-9 and got ahead by as much as 32-12 before Mineola rallied, with the help of some three-point shooting, to make it 34-22 at halftime.

Mineola cuts the lead down to two points late in the third quarter and Atlanta takes a 47-41 lead into the fourth quarter.

And Atlanta takes the win 71-62. Mineola managed to close it back to a two-point game at 49-47 but could get no closer.

Special Olympics returns in style

Symphonic band presents Christmas concert

Concerts are Sunday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. and Tuesday evening, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. Mike Holbrook is back in the director’s seat, so it’s sure to be a fun-filled couple of hours.
