After a heavy rain on Friday afternoon, the Mineola Yellowjackets practiced under the lights with high humidity and with high energy music from 9 p.m. to midnight, creating the perfect atmosphere for some adrenaline pumping excitement for the 2017 football season.
There was a smattering of fans who watched the practice with great anticipation of another run at the District 7-3A state title.
Head Coach Luke Blackwell and his coaching staff ran a practice session that was hard-hitting, high energy, and firmly focused on producing some wins. After losing several starters from last year’s championship team to graduation, the Jackets have their work cut out for them.
With the Van Vandals as their first opponent on Sept. 1 the Yellowjackets must be ready for some smash-mouth football while on the road. Van has proven to be a difficult opponent and Mineola will be looking to avenge last year’s loss to this team.
The 2016 state champion Yellowjacket team is looking for the support of its town and its fans. These young men are working hard to be ready to compete with any team they suit up against and to make everyone in attendance Mineola-proud.
Before the season kickoff against Van, Mineola will play a scrimmage game Friday, at Elysian Fields at 5 p.m., and again next Friday, Aug. 25, at 5 p.m. against Caddo Mills at home.
