Mona Mae Davis  1918-2019

Mona Mae Davis of Mineola passed away peacefully Saturday, Sept. 7, 2019, in Mineola, with loving family by her side.

She was born on the farm in Alba on Tuesday, May 21, 1918, to the late William Clark Pope and Laura Ethel Harvey Pope.

At 16, she married Raymond Earl Davis “Bigdaddy” on Saturday, Sept. 8, 1934. They celebrated their 85th wedding anniversary in heaven. 

She worked on the farm until they moved to Mineola in 1956. She went to work for Eat Shop, Southwestern Bell, Buddy Schoellkopf, Lorna Fashions and retired to keep great-grandkids. She loved her family and friends and she was known for her sharp memory and keen sense of humor.

She was a member of the Church of Christ in Golden.

Survivors include her daughters, Ann Nolen of Carthage and Rita Avery of Mineola; sons, James Davis and wife Helen of Quitman and Donald Davis of Frankston; sister-in-law, Neva Pope of Alba; and six generations of family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; twin brother, Barney Pope; brothers, Kenneth Pope and Marvin Pope; baby brother, Jink Pope; sister, Ozella Taylor; husband, Raymond E. Davis; son, Gerald Wayne Davis; sons-in-law, Cecil Avery and Earl Nolen, and daughter-in-law, Sue Davis.
