• The Mineola Yellowjackets will face the Wall Hawks at 7 p.m. Friday at Waco ISD Stadium. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students. Texas High School Coaches Association, district, senior citizen and military pass will be honored. There is a community pep rally scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at Meredith Memorial Stadium.

• The 2nd Friday Acoustical Music Circle at Quitman Public Library is Friday from 6 - 9 p.m. Acoustic musicians of all ages and musical levels are invited to join in, and listeners are always welcome. Holiday treats will be served. For more information, call Eugene Allen at 903-975-5745.

• This is the final weekend of Lake Country Playhouse’s “Chaps! A Jingle Jangle Christmas.” The Christmas production will be performed Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. with a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $7 for students. Call the theater in Mineola for information or reservations.

• Cub Scout Pack 385 is holding a chili lunch Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at the Mineola First United Methodist Church.

• A Toys for Tots Car Show is being held in the Walmart parking lot from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. by the Lake Country Classic Car Club. Admission is an unwrapped toy for the Marine Corps League’s Christmas campaign.

• The annual Flora Masonic Lodge Fish Fry benefitting Christmas Sharing Plus is set for Saturday 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the lodge on Highway 37 just south of Quitman. The cost is $14 for adults and $6 for children under 12.

• Also on Saturday and Sunday, the First Baptist Church is holding a free Christmas program entitled “This is Christmas!” Saturday’s program is at 7 p.m. and Sunday’s at 11 a.m. There is no admission charge for the program.

• A Cowboy Gala is planned Saturday at 6 p.m. at 4B Ranch in Alba as a fundraiser for the Wood County Child Welfare and Protection Board and the Rains County Angel Tree. (See story inside)

• The Quitman Tour of Homes will be held Sunday from 1-4 p.m. with tickets available through the Forever Young Activity Center. (See story.)

• The Grand Saline Library will celebrate its 50th anniversary Tuesday at 5 p.m. with a reception at the library. The public is invited.

• On Tuesday at noon a “Christmas with Friends” is planned in the Thurman Shamburger Community Room of the Quitman Library. The Quitman Elementary Choir will perform a medley of holiday songs. Light refreshments will be served, and the public is invited.

• Tuesday the Friends of the Arboretum and the Quitman Chamber of Commerce are hosting a Christmas Open House at the Stinson House at Governor Jim Hogg Park from 5:30 to 8 p.m. (See story.)

• The Coats for Kids Drive is still collecting new or gently used coats, jackets, toboggans and gloves for children in the community through Thursday, Dec. 15. Items can be taken to Lake View Dental Center on Highway 69 south of Mineola.
