Mt. Vernon routs Quitman Bulldogs
A 15-run second inning by Mt. Vernon spelled defeat for the Quitman Bulldogs in their district opener on the road last Tuesday. The Tigers won 18-7.
The Tigers scored three times in the first inning and 15 in the second to take a commanding 18-0 lead. Mt. Vernon was able to only get seven hits in the game, but seven Bulldog errors opened the door for the Tigers.
The Bulldogs fought back with runs in the third and fourth innings, cutting into the Tiger lead. Quitman came back in the top of the fifth to score five runs. Mason Reynolds, Dalton Crowson, Caleb Hamby and Kamron Crockett had an RBI in the big inning, but it was not enough as the Tigers scored the win.
Hamby, Reynolds, Crowson, Landon Richey, Ford Tannebaum and Jack Tannebaum each had hits for the Bulldogs.
Quitman was set to face Mt. Pleasant Chapel Hill Tuesday and travel to Winnsboro Friday for district contests during the spring break.
