New chairman appointed for county EDC

Tom Keenan has been appointed to serve on the board of the Wood County Economic Development Commission (WCEDC) as well as to serve as chairman by County Judge Lucy Hebron, effective Jan. 2 for a two-year term.

“Wood County and our EDC is very fortunate to have an outstanding individual with substantial business acumen join and lead our EDC, working together to improve Wood County’s quality of life by improving economic development,” Hebron said. “Mr. Keenan will be a wonderful addition to our board with his diverse business background and his heart for community service. We are thrilled to have him onboard as we move in a new direction of planning for our county’s economic growth through a county-wide economic development strategy.”

Hebron said that, consistent with the recommendations of the Blue Ribbon Task Force, that the restructuring of the board, including appointment of additional board members and professional management by an executive director, will be forthcoming in the near future.

“As Mr. Keenan comes on board to chair the Wood County EDC, I wish to extend a huge thank you to Neal Duncan who has filled in as an interim chairman since October. Neal will continue to serve on the board as a member and as acting interim executive director on a volunteer basis. Once a new executive director is hired, Mr. Duncan can resume regular board member duties.”

Keenan is a founding partner and president of Strategic Healthcare Initiatives, Inc. He has a robust business career in insurance, healthcare strategies and healthy lifestyle programs. In his role as a healthcare executive and consultant, he has worked closely with insurance companies, children’s hospitals and health care organizations providing “start-up” operations for companies. Keenan and his wife reside at Land’s End where he serves as president of the Sporting Club. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Indiana University.
