The Alba-Golden Panthers took an early lead and held on late to take a 5-4 win over the Hawkins Hawks last Tuesday afternoon at home.
After a scoreless first inning by both teams the Hawks struck first scoring a single run, however the Panthers responded immediately in the bottom of the frame with three runs of their own.
During the third and fourth innings Hawks’ pitcher Zach Conde found his rhythm on the mound holding the Panthers scoreless, while the Hawks’ bats came alive as they scored two runs in the third and another run in the fourth frame giving them a 4-3 lead after four innings.
With the Panthers needing two runs to grab the victory the team did just that as they scored two runs in the fifth inning and closed out the 5-4 victory.
Logan MrDak led the Hawks offensively going 2-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Brady Stone added a hit and an RBI while Cain Austin added a hit and a run scored.
Conde pitched five innings and took the loss as he gave up two runs while striking out seven Panther batters. Kevin Durnal pitched two innings in relief of Conde for the Hawks as he gave up three runs while striking out three and walking two batters.
For the Panthers Daniel Wiley pitched six innings while giving up seven hits striking out seven and gave up four runs. Jacob Dailey got the save after giving up a walk and striking out one.
Zane Smith went 0-2 with two walks and two runs scored. Braden Reynolds went 1-3 with a walk and a run scored. Daniel Wiley had a solid outing as well going 2-3 with two RBI. Nick Murray got the key bunt in the game as he sacrifice bunted to bring in the winning run in the sixth inning.
The Hawks’ next game will be against Overton Friday on the road. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. Alba-Golden’s next game is Friday at Mt. Vernon. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
