Paul Hicks, 1928-2019

Funeral service for Paul Hicks, 90, of Quitman, was held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Lowe Funeral Home with Brother Fred Morrow officiating. Visitation was held one hour prior to service time. Mr. Hicks was laid to rest following the service at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Mineola.

David Paul Hicks was born at home in Wood County on Nov. 18, 1928 to Robert Erving and Bertha May (Rushing) Hicks. In Dallas on August 12, 1950, he married the love of his life, Doris Tinney Hicks. The two lived in Dallas for many years before returning to Quitman in 1963. Paul worked for Dallas Transit as a bus driver for 21 years and later was a dairy farmer for 25 years. He was a self-taught and very hard working man. He loved his horses and could talk about them all day. Paul was a devoted Christian and was a member of a church group that met at the Quitman Public Library.

Paul passed away early Wednesday morning, May 29, 2019.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Robert E. and Bertha M. Hicks; his second son, Douglas Allen Hicks; sister, Della Ruth Harris; and two brothers, Norman Lee Hicks and Hollice Wayne Hicks.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 68 years, Doris Hicks of Quitman; two sons, Norman Paul Hicks and wife Brenda of Quitman and Mark Edward Hicks and wife Tamra of Quitman; daughter, Cathy Nardecchia and husband Eddie of Quitman; daughter in law, Darlene Hicks of Quitman; 9 grandchildren, Brandy, Jason, Debrahle, Michelle, Michael, Katie, Brady, Daniel, and Brittany; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
