Pedestrian killed near Quitman
A 92-year old Quitman woman died Tuesday, Nov. 5 when she was hit by a vehicle while walking northwest in the southbound lane of Hwy. 154.
Beatrice Hawkins was killed when she was hit by a Ford Flex sport utility vehicle driven by Berita Morse, 71, of Gilmer just west of Quitman.
Hawkins was walking in the dark, and Morse was unable to see Hawkins in time to avoid striking her, according to reports.
Hawkins was taken to Lowe Funeral Home. DPS Trooper Gary Hayes investigated the accident.
