Petty to entertain at Hay Show

This year’s Mineola Hay Show will feature Dr. Charles Petty as the guest speaker Tuesday Sept. 10 at Mineola Civic Center Tickets are still available for the annual affair and can be purchased for $10 at Mineola Civic Center.

There are 90 entries for this year’s show. The top 30 growers hay will be auctioned at the beginning of the program.

Petty is a professional motivational speaker who is a member of the National Speaker Hall of Fame which includes other notables such as Zig Ziglar, Norman Vincent Peale and Art Linkletter. He has spoken to over 3,200 clients in 50 states and 14 countries.

Petty was raised in farming communities in England and Stuttgart, Ark. He was educated in Arkansas, Mississippi and Texas. He has been a counselor, visiting professor and has been on staffs of large corporations in Texas and North Carolina. Petty spent seven years on the senior staff of the North Carolina governor. He is the founder of president of Family Success Unlimited and since 1985 he has been a motivational speaker.

Petty learned about the importance of family from the school of hard knocks. His parents divorced when he was six years old and his mother died three years later and he then lived in a blended family. When he was 16 his father and younger brother were killed in a car accident. He lived by himself for a year and then became a foster child.

Proceeds from the sale of hay at the show are used to sponsor scholarships and promote other youth agricultural activities including the local livestock show in the spring. Food for the event is being prepared by Seth’s Lake Fork Creek Steak and Seafood.
