The 5th Annual Lake Fork Open is history and 123 high school bass fishing teams from Texas and several other states survived the stifling heat. The Lake Fork Chamber of Commerce sponsored event was held at Oak Ridge Marina.
The big winners were Hunter Muncrief and Landen McCary from Pineland West Sabine High School who brought in 17.34 total pounds of bass in the two day affair. The winners took home the big scholarship money with a $7,000 check.
Local anglers River Lee and Dakota Anglin of Alba-Golden took third with 14.90 pounds and Mineola’s Bryce River and Tristan Rychlik came in third at 13.37 pounds.
There were 123 teams who braved temperatures ranging from 108 to 110 degrees. The open brought in over 1,000 people to the Lake Fork area. Sunday’s total catch by the young anglers was 224 fish weighing in at 263.48 pounds.
The mission of the tournament is to provide college scholarship funds to high school students while teaching sportsmanship and responsibility in a fun atmosphere.
