Postseason for softball teams in the Rains Wood County Association started this week with district tournaments for some and state tournaments in the horizon.
In softball play, the 6U National League first place Alba Crush drew a bye and will go directly to the state tournament being held at Emory.
The 8U girls District Tournament is being held this week in Mineola at the Youth Foundation facilities. Participating teams are: First place American League representatives Alba Pink Panthers; Second place National League Mineola Dirt Dolls; Central League First Place Quitman Firestix and Second Place Quitman Intensity.
The 10U district tournament is going on at this time in Quitman at Dawson Athletic Complex. County teams participating are: Central League First Place Mineola Outlaws and Second Place Mineola Cracker Jacks.
Also playing in Mineola this week is the 12U District Tournament. Two county teams, the Alba Heat, First Place American League and the Mineola Thunderstruck, Second Place National League, are competing for a ticket to the state finals.
In 15U, the Quitman Killer Kleatz (Second Place) and Alba Uproar (Third Place) have no district tournament and are headed to Rusk for the state tournament.
The boy’s teams are still wrapping up the season with make-up games this week, but others have been set. Those tournaments are at various sites July 2 through 6.
The 6U district tournaments for the boys will be held at Emory. Mineola will be sending two teams from the Centr4al league. They are First Place winners the Mineola Bombers and Second Place Mineola Longhorns.
In 10U competition being held in Quitman there are eight teams total with three of those from Wood County. The Central League Second Place finisher Mineola Longhorns will be there as will the East League’s First Place Mineola Wrecking Ballz and Second Place Quitman Rookies.
At the 12U District Tournament in Emory, Wood County will be represented by the First Place Quitman Giants and the Second Place Mineola Dodgers. The 14U boys will travel to Chandler for their District Tournament. They will be represented by the First Place Mineola Indians and third Place Alba Panthers.
