Filing for the spring party primaries got underway Saturday.

Among the first to file was Republican State Sen. Bryan Hughes of Mineola, seeking reelection.

Though Hughes won a four-year term two years ago, all state senate positions must be reelected following redistricting, and then they will draw for two or four-year terms.

Those who have filed with the Wood County Republican Party include incumbent Tony Gilbreath for Precinct One justice of the peace, incumbent Jerry Parker for Precinct Three justice of the peace, incumbent Kelley Price for county clerk, Suzy Wright for district clerk and Daphne Carter for county treasurer.

County Republican Chairman Jana Castloo will be accepting applications at the Speakeasy Coffee House, 103 N. Main in Quitman on the following dates:

Dec. 1 and 2, 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.; Dec. 8, 11:30-2:30 and Dec. 13, 3-5:30 p.m. She may be reached at 903-581-8514.

To file as  Democrat, contact county chairman Judy Traylor at 903-312-3315.

All the major statewide offices are being contested along with U.S. and state representatives and state senate.

At the county level, offices to be decided include the county judge, district attorney, district and county clerks, county treasurer, the four justices of the peace and county commissioners in Precincts 2 and 4.

The filing deadline is Monday, Dec. 13 for the March 1 primary.

Incumbent County Judge Lucy Hebron and incumbent District Attorney Angela Albers have also announced their intentions to seek reelection.

County Treasurer Becky Burford has announced she will not seek another term.
