QISD names superintendent finalist
The Quitman School Board named assistant superintendent Chris Mason as the lone finalist to become the new superintendent Monday.
Mason will replace Rhonda Turner, who announced in August that she is retiring Dec. 31 after serving as QISD superintendent for 15 years.

QISD names superintendent finalist
The Quitman School Board named assistant superintendent Chris Mason as the lone finalist to become the new superintendent Monday.
Mason will replace Rhonda Turner, who announced in August that she is retiring Dec. 31 after serving as QISD superintendent for 15 years.
The vote was unanimous to select Mason, who joined the district as assistant superintendent in May 2019.
State law requires a 21-day waiting period before a contract can be offered to Mason.
Before coming to QISD, Mason was high school principal in Leonard for three years.
He began teaching in 2004 after obtaining a bachelors degree in criminal justice and corrections at Tarleton State University in 2003. He added a masters in education from Texas A&M Commerce in 2013 and received his superintendent certification from the University of Texas at Tyler in 2018.
He spent 10 years as a teacher and coach before moving into administration.
He is a graduate of Boswell High School in the Eagle Mountain-Saginaw school district near Fort Worth.
He and his wife Jayme were married in 2004 and have two sons.
