Two Quitman Elementary School staff members are no longer assigned to any campus in the district following an investigation into an allegation that a student was held in an in-class restroom as a form of timeout.

The allegation was raised on Tuesday, Sept. 30, and the teacher and a paraprofessional were placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.

In a letter to parents dated Oct. 2, Superintendent Chris Mason said the investigation was concluded on Oct. 1, and disciplinary measures were taken in response to the unacceptable behavior.

The district also reported the incident to the Dept. of Family and Protective Services as required by law and filed a misconduct report with the Texas Education Agency.

The district also reached out to the child’s parent/guardian and communicated with all parents/guardians of children in that classroom.
