QISD trustees grant Turner power to act in board’s place
The Quitman ISD school board met in special session last Friday and passed a resolution delegating Superintendent Rhonda Turner to act in place of the board during an emergency closure.
The resolution was adopted by trustees Jeremy Smith, Michael Hipp, James Hicks, Doug Cameron and Raymond Peek. Board members Royce Patterson and Jane Herring were unable to attend the noon meeting.
The resolution included giving Turner the authority to make all decisions regarding payment to employees during the emergency closure, to implement the provisions of board policy and make determinations regarding the purpose and parameters of any such payments.
Also, Turner was given the authority to make decisions regarding compensation of exempt and non-exempt employees during an emergency closure, including premium payments for certain employees and to implement those decisions.
The superintendent will further be able to alter the Quitman ISD school calendar by changing and/or adding school/instructional hours and work/school days as necessitated by any emergency closures or related concerns.
