Quitman Library Connections

The Quitman Public Library will be closed for the Thanksgiving Holiday on Thursday, Nov. 24 and Friday, Nov. 25. However, the library’s online catalog, Wi-Fi, OverDrive e-books, and TexShare Databases will remain accessible. Check out our holiday collection of books for pleasure reading, movies with a holiday theme, and books with recipe and decorating ideas to make Thanksgiving 2016 extra special. These displays are located near the check-out desk.
The next 2nd Friday Acoustical Music Circle is Friday, Dec. 9, from 6 - 9 p.m. Acoustic musicians of all ages and musical levels are invited to join in, and listeners are always welcome. For more information, call Eugene Allen 903-975-5745.

Adult Services
Knitting and crochet instructor, Virginia Hoffpauir, invites everyone to bring his or her own supplies and join her group for a fun time of free instruction. Stop by the library’s main gallery each Thursday, 2 – 4 p.m. All ages and skill levels are welcome.
Get GED Ready@ Quitman Public Library each Thursday from 4 – 6 p.m. Class is taught by certified instructor, Susan Resnik. Stop by or call 903-763-4191.
Children’s Services
The Story Time Gang meets each Thursday at 2 p.m. Lillian Gray plans an educational hour filled with stories, crafts and plenty of fun. The theme for Nov. 17 is “All About Ways to Say Thank you.” There will be no story time on Nov. 24, but Santa Claus will join us for Story Time on Thursday, Dec. 15 at 2 p.m.
Story Time is designed for young readers and home-schooled students; however anyone who wants to hear a great story is welcome. Special thanks go to Peoples Telephone for funding and sponsorship of crafts and activities for the Story Time Gang.
Friends of the Library
Friends of the Library invites the public to spend your lunch hour with them on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at noon when the Quitman Elementary Choir will sing Christmas carols in the library’s Thurman Shamburger Community Room. A short meeting will follow which includes the five-minute no-spoiler book review.
Genealogy
The Wood County Genealogical Society meets Monday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. in the library’s community room. Members are happy to assist those who are researching family history. Visit facebook.com/groups/woocotx/ to learn more about the society.

We have added new e-book and audio book titles to the library’s online collection. Download the OverDrive® app on your phone or tablet for access to countless eBooks, audio books and streaming video from the Quitman Public Library. You may check out up to five online items for your choice of seven or 14 days.
On Display
Beverly Chamberlain has created a display in the front lobby showcase about the Kennedy assassination.
