Quitman art student achieves perfect score
In February, Quitman High School freshman Bonnie Vander Schaaf competed with hundreds of other art students from the area at the regional Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) in Tyler.
Bonnie earned a perfect score for her drawing “Cornado” and earned a trip to State VASE in San Marcos. It is believed that she is the first QHS student to achieve this distinction.
Unfortunately the state event was canceled due to COVID-19, but the artwork was adjudicated digitally on Saturday, April 25.
Bonnie’s work received a top rating at state and earned her a gold medal.
The mission of the High School VASE is to recognize exemplary student achievement in the Visual Arts by providing high school art students and programs a standard of excellence in which to achieve.
