Quitman High School honored athletes involved in fall sports Thursday night at the school auditorium. Athletes from volleyball, football, cross country and cheerleading were given special team awards.

Quitman athletes recognized at fall sports awards reception
Quitman High School honored athletes involved in fall sports Thursday night at the school auditorium. Athletes from volleyball, football, cross country and cheerleading were given special team awards.
The volleyball MVP (Most Valuable Player) was Madalyn Spears, a four-year player for the Lay Bulldogs. Maddy Whitehurst received the Most Improved award while Jentri Jackson was named Offensive MVP and Abby Dobbs Defensive MVP.
Trey Berry was named the football MVP while Justin Blalock was the Offensive Player of the Year (POY) and Hunter Gilbreath Defensive POY. Sophomore player Christian James received the Most Improved Award.
Joann Santiago was the Girls Cross Country MVP and Dalton Bruner was the Boys Cross Country MVP. In cheerleading, Abby Dobbs and Jentri Jackson were named Outstanding Leadership and the Bulldog Spirit Award went to Emma VanBecelarre, Kaiti Kelley and Brooklyn Marcee.
Several athletes received all-district recognition and many received statewide honors. In volleyball, Texas Association of Volleyball Coaches (TAVC) Academic All-State players were Abby Dobbs, who was also Texas girls Coaches Association Academic All-State, Lindsey Hornaday, Julia Simpkins, Shelby Hayes and Jentri Jackson. Hayes and Spears each were also named to the TAVC All-State Team.
In football, senior Josh Medlin was named to the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) Academic Second team and Justin Blalock named Honorable Mention.
Dalton Brandon was named THSCA Honorable Mention All-State.
