It was a long, wet and cold Friday night for the Quitman Bulldogs as they dropped their eighth game this season in a 46-0 loss at Frankston, the first time this season the Bulldogs had been held scoreless.

The Bulldogs fell victim to big plays, untimely penalties and a pair of injuries to senior standouts, wide receiver Riley Flanagan and defensive/offensive lineman Hunter Gilbreath. Other than three pass plays that went for scores, the Bulldog defense did a creditable job.

”River Chaney and Brian Morris each had another good game at linebacker. Chaney made all his reads and did his job stopping the run game of Fankston. I thought the whole defense did a pretty good job,” Head Coach Brian Oakes said. “On offense, Chris Chabaud did another good job of running hard against Frankston. I’m proud of the way our kids got after it the whole game.”

Chabaud picked up 102 yards on 20 carries for Quitman during the game. That gives the big running back close to 350 yards in just three games on the Bulldog varsity.

Frankston quarterback Brink Bizzell scored first on a six yard run up the middle with 7:52 left in the first quarter. That was followed by a Bizzell pass to Jim King covering 25 yards making it a 13-0 game two minutes later. It was another Bizzell to King pass play covering 39 yards that gave the Indians a 19-0 advantage after one quarter. Frankston and King hooked up in the second quarter on a 69-yard pass play to score with 7:45 to go in the first half, leaving the score 25-0 at intermission.

It was a quiet halftime. Due to bad weather the Frankston band played a few tunes from the bleachers and the Quitman band was not in attendance at the game.

In the second half, Frankston got their fourth touchdown pass and a pair of running scores to make it the 46-0 final tally.

Quitman is at home this Friday for Senior Night against Alba-Golden. The Panthers are coming off a 46-26 loss to Troup. Alba-Golden’s Jon Michael Chadwick continued his stellar season in that contest rushing for 278 yards on 27 carries in the loss.

The Quitman and Alba-Golden Wood County rivalry should be a good contest. “We know Alba-Golden will come to play. This is a big rivalry game for our kids,” Oakes said.  “They have good speed and the Chadwick kid is the real deal. He is very fast and he runs tough. We are looking forward to the battle.”

Harmony stands alone at the top of district 10-3A D2 with a 5-0 record after a 42-0 shut down of Arp. Grand Saline fell to 4-1 after being stunned by Winona 34-24. Winona and Troup are tied for third at 3-2 with Arp and Frankston both 2-3, Alba-Golden 1-4 and Quitman 0-5.

The Quitman JV defeated Frankston 36-6 to give them a 4-4 season record.
