Quitman Bulldogs slam Lone Oak, 65-34

The Quitman Bulldogs stayed in the hunt for a playoff spot with a solid 65-34 win over Lone Oak on Jan. 15 and moved to 3-3 in the district race, leaving them tied with Alba-Golden for a possible fourth playoff spot.

Ben Burroughs got the Bulldogs rolling in the first quarter with a three-point bomb from the left corner at the 6:13 mark. Burroughs had one of his best games of the year, scoring 12 points and playing solid defense. Trey Berry made a lay-up after Rylie Flanagan blocked a shot and the Bulldogs moved the ball quickly into scoring position, making it 5-0.

Lone Oak made it a 5-2 ball game and then the Bulldogs went on a 15-point run, making it 20-2 on another Berry field goal with 5:25 left in the first half. Aiden Corrior put in a triple as the first half ended making the score 32-12 at intermission.

Jace Reid and Berry had the hot hand in the third quarter with both scoring seven points, leading the Bulldogs to 48-25 lead going into the final quarter.

Quitman added a 17-9 fourth-quarter advantage to gain the 65-34 district win. Reid ended the evening with 21 points to lead all scorers, followed by Berry’s 15 and Burroughs’s 12. Corrior added eight points with Flanagan netting four and Ty Holland and Hunter Gilbreath two each.

The Bulldogs went to Grand Saline on Tuesday and are at home against district leading Edgewood on Friday.
