I really never thought of myself as the unicorn type, but if those quizzes on Facebook hold true, then by golly, old Tucker is the mystical creature in another life. Although Facebook has a myriad of offerings, I find it informative and entertaining.

I am a Facebook novice, but I find it fascinating when I can answer a few questions and find so much out about myself. The unicorn was actually a test to see what mythical creature I would be. I found out that as a unicorn I am peaceful, calm, love to help strangers and I love and respect the earth. Through a 10 question I.Q. test I found out that I am not real intelligent, but glad to know I am fairly normal.

The one about my theme song really got to me. I have always considered myself in the progressive/ outlaw country, delta blues or heavy metal type. It was with surprise that my theme song turned out to be a nice little ditty called "Walking in the Sunshine." The reasoning from my answers to the questions was that I am an optimist and see beauty in all parts of life. Although I wanted it to tell me I was more associated with a Howlin' Wolf, Willie Nelson or Metallica song, I am content to know I am a happy man. One of my favorites was when I found out my status as a warrior and the results were that I was Camille the Warrior in another life, not sure what that meant and don't think I want to know.

The latest one was to find out what kind of karma I had. Mine simply said "Wild." Apparently I love life to the fullest and I like to experience, explore and go crazy. I am always ready for a challenge or adventure and the more I explore the happier I am. It does sound a bit like me.

What I do like about Facebook is the ability to connect with family and especially old friends. Since I have been back to the Democrat I look found out you better not be anything but positive about Jane Herring's Dallas Cowboys. I know that Richard Neighbors is a grill master of the highest degree and he knows his muscle cars. My old buddy from KMOO days, Michael Gunn, has great posts, many funny, but a lot about music and some great videos to share. For inspiration, Beverly Gunn always has positive spiritual insight.

I was able to reconnect with my college roommate Chris Liebrum and am able to see him and his wife Cindy as they travel in England. Chris has been a youth and music minster of music in the Texas Baptist Convention for a long time and served at the state level in that organization for many years.

It is always great to connect with my fellow classmates from the W.W. Samuell Class of 1969 as well with many of my old "Groveite" friends from the past. Facebook has let me know when old friends and new friends celebrate births, weddings and unfortunately too many times, the death of someone I loved and respected. I found out old friend Joe Goldblatt is a professor in Scotland and his posts are always joyous and informative.

Perry Jones from over around the Emory and Point area has some incredible posts each day. Jones is one of Dallas' top blues musicians and he has kept a journal for years and he tells stories from days gone by with actual dates and times. He is always insightful and downright entertaining with his words.

I get to stay informed on the latest real cowboy poetry and music scene because of good buddy Robert Joe Vandygriff, originally from Roxton, who was recently inducted into the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame as an entertainer. He has traveled the world with his one-man "Joe Texas" performance. He and his band Shades of Country played at Old Settlers 20 years ago.

I get to keep up my coaching friends, especially Clay Pirtle, who's inspiring inner growth over the past three years has given me hope, and his constant positive encouragement of others with wise and useful words brings blessings.

Former students from all over Texas keep in touch and let me know how they are doing. I am very proud of so many of "my kids" from Seguin, Dallas, Clarksville, Yantis and North Hopkins and it's great to see how wonderful they are doing as adults.

I enjoy watching people battle over politics and get amused and amazed at some of the ridiculous things they seem to believe just because it's on the internet. The best thing is I get to see my four children, their spouses and my three grandchildren as they grow up and become young adults. I get to know my how my siblings, my nieces and nephews and all my cousins are doing, and get to watch their little ones grow up before my eyes.

I now have close to a 1,000 friends on FB so I get to learn a little more about you all every day. By the way we have a Democrat facebook page. You can help us get to 1,000, so please give us a try.

Be true to yourself today, it will make a better tomorrow.
