The Quitman City Council has approved a new food truck ordinance.

The council put the new rules in place last Thursday, and truck owners will have 90 days to meet the new regulations.

They include a city-issued permit. Permit requirements include the location of the truck, a state mobile food permit and state sales tax permit.

Trucks parked at the Clark Street Market are exempt.

The fee is $15 daily or $150 annually. All permits will renew Jan. 1, regardless of when obtained, and will require a new application.

The permit must be visible at all times.

Hours of operation are 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., and trucks must be removed daily unless permission is granted by the property owner.

Trucks must be located in an approved zoning area or mobile food park. They are not allowed on public streets or rights-of-way unless during a permitted special event.

Violators may be fined up to $2,000 per day.

In other action, the council heard and approved the 2022 and 2023 financial audits.

Republic Services, the city trash contractor, submitted a donation of $1,000 to be split by the Quitman police and fire departments.

A requirement that parked recreational vehicles must be on pavement was removed.

A grant of $36,000 from the Quitman Development Corp. for the purchase of property at 715 S. Main St. was approved, followed by council approval of that purchase.

The sale of a fire department rescue vehicle was approved.
