Quitman crew pleased with scrimmage

Quitman Bulldog coaches were smiling after a three-way scrimmage Thursday at Como-Pickton facing the Eagles and Paris Chisum.

“We did a lot of positive things out there this time. The offensive line has started coming around and I thought they did a good job. We had our moments on defense too,” Head Coach Bryan Oakes said. “I was pleased with the running of Alex Wilson who has moved in from Lindale. He did a good job for us and is going to be a big plus for our offense this year. Medlin (Josh) continues to show his leadership skills on the field and Berry (Trey) can be explosive on any play.”

Berry scored on one electrifying 65-yard jaunt and then again at the end of a long sustained drive. Rylie Flanagan caught a pass on the run from Medlin and completed a 70-yard scoring play with his speed. Ty Holland played solid on both sides of the ball and recovered a fumble after a solid hit on an Eagle runner.

Oakes said Como-Pickton did a good job. “Como-Pickton has a really good team. Coach Swann (Charles) and his staff have done a great job,” Oakes said. “Our kids did a good job against a quality team that will be in the playoffs.”

In their time against Paris Chisum, Quitman dominated the line of scrimmage which led to the Bulldogs gaining positive yards on the ground. The line also did a good job of protection which gave Bulldog quarterbacks time to find receivers and make completions.
